WordPress is one of the most popular content management systems (CMS) for publishing articles, blog posts, and other types of content. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced user, this guide will walk you through the process of posting an article on WordPress.
Step 1: Log in to Your WordPress Dashboard
- Open your web browser and go to your WordPress login page. Typically, the URL is:
yourwebsite.com/wp-admin
- Enter your username and password, then click Log In.
Step 2: Navigate to the Post Editor
- Once inside the WordPress dashboard, look at the left-hand menu and click on Posts.
- Click Add New to create a new post.
Step 3: Add a Title and Write Your Content
- In the editor, enter your article title in the “Add title” field.
- Below the title, start typing or paste your article into the main content area.
Using the WordPress Block Editor (Gutenberg)
- WordPress uses a block-based editor where each section of your article (paragraphs, images, videos) is a separate block.
- To add different content types (e.g., images, headings, lists), click the + (Add Block) button.
Using the Classic Editor
- If you have the classic editor enabled, you will see a familiar word processor-style toolbar.
- You can format text, add images, and insert links easily.
Step 4: Format Your Article
1. Add Headings
- Use headings (H2, H3, H4) to structure your content.
- Select the text and choose the heading style from the toolbar.
2. Insert Images
- Click the + button, choose Image, and upload an image from your computer or the media library.
- Add alt text for SEO and accessibility.
3. Add Links
- Highlight the text you want to turn into a link.
- Click the 🔗 (Insert Link) button and enter the URL.
Step 5: Set Categories and Tags
- In the right-hand panel, you’ll see Categories and Tags.
- Select or create a category for better content organization.
- Add relevant tags to help with SEO.
Step 6: Set a Featured Image
- Scroll down to Featured Image on the right.
- Click Set featured image and upload/select an image.
- This will appear as the thumbnail on your blog.
Step 7: Preview Your Article
- Click Preview (top-right) to see how your post will look on your site.
- Make necessary edits before publishing.
Step 8: Publish Your Article
- When you’re satisfied, click the Publish button.
- WordPress will ask you to confirm—click Publish again.
Bonus: Scheduling and Drafts
- If you’re not ready to publish, click Save Draft.
- To schedule a post, click Immediately under “Publish” and set a future date/time.
